Signum Classics, a major project of Signum Classics, presents the treasured recordings of world-class conductors such as Honorary Conductor Dohnányi, Principal Guest Conductor Mackerras, Laureate Conductor Ashkenazy, British music master Andrew Davis, and current Principal Conductor Salonen with the Philharmonia Orchestra. The Philharmonia Orchestra Series is a major project of Signum Classics.The recently announced release of Salonen's "Songs of Goulet" (SIGCD 173) marks an urgent appearance in this series of Beethoven recordings by the current conductor emeritus, Dohnányi, who trained the Philharmonia Orchestra from 1997 to 2008 as its chief conductor! Although Dohnányi has not had much luck with recordings, which seems to be at odds with his ability, fame, and career, his excellent performances of Brahms (SIGCD 132) and R. Strauss (SIGCD 148), which were released as if to quench the thirst of his fans, are still fresh in their memories, and the expectations for this Beethoven are high. In the 1980s, Dohnányi recorded the complete Beethoven symphonies with the Cleveland Orchestra. The "No. 3" and "No. 5" with the Philharmonia Orchestra, which are meticulously constructed with solid music-making, convey the weight of the approximately 20 years that D'Honagni has accumulated and his mature and supreme art. ［Comment courtesy of Tokyo M-Plus.
