Finland's masterful duo, Nolas and Gotoni! This is a modern and contemporary cello recital program by the gorgeous duo of Arto Nolas (1942-), a cellist representing Northern Europe and Finland, and Ralph Gotoni, a world-famous pianist also from Finland! The latter part of the program will feature Shostakovich's epic masterpiece, "Cello Sonata Op.40," while opening with Poland's Penderecki's "Suite for Unaccompanied Cello". The work added between Penderecki and Shostakovich is the "Cello Sonata No. 2" by Korean composer Jaejoong Ryu, who has close ties to Finland, including an invitation to the Naantali Music Festival, and who just composed the work in 2018. The Finnish masters will delve into the deep fascination of three cello works created in Poland, Korea, and Russia (former Soviet Union) in the 20th and 21st centuries, with an outstanding combination of Finnish masters.
