PROCFISKAL—the solo project of Edinburgh-based producer Joe Powers, a leading figure in UK bass music known for his work spanning footwork, grime, drum 'n' bass, and jungle—has released his latest album via his home label, Hyperdub! While his previous album, *INSULA*, focused on personal emotions and surroundings—sampling conversations with friends, among other things—this new work samples the inner voices found in Gaelic, Irish, and British folk music, resulting in an album that expresses dance music as folk music throughout. JoePowers’ family includes musicians who were active during the 1960s folk revival, and this background has influenced this album. Texturally, the album is also influenced by 16-bit flute and string sounds found in video game soundtracks. Grime, 808s, video game music, folk music… Though packed with a variety of sounds, this is a delightful album where you can fully enjoy the nostalgic and melodic style that defines PROCFISKAL’s artistic vision!
