Description:

The Fine Duo, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2016, continues to lead a fulfilling career with the performance of works by Japanese composers as one of its life’s works. In terms of recordings, the group has released three CDs to date in a series titled “The Sound of Japan,” all of which have been highly acclaimed. This fourth CD in the series focuses on Japanese female composers. By tracing the legacy they have left in the Japanese classical music world, it fully conveys to listeners the true value of numerous brilliant works that have often been overlooked. She graduated at the top of her class from the Instrumental Music Department of the Faculty of Music at Tokyo University of the Arts. She completed the required coursework for the doctoral program at the same university. She won third prize at the International Violin Competition commemorating the 200th anniversary of Paganini’s birth, second prize (together with Akemi Tatenuma) at the Maria Canals International Competition, and fifth prize at the Alberto Curci International Violin Competition. She received the Special Prize from the Judging Committee at the Japan Music Competition and the Kenzo Nakajima Prize as a member of “Art Respirant.” In May 2005, she received the Shizuoka Prefecture Cultural Encouragement Award. For 25 years, beginning in 1990, she served as a permanent member of the Mito Chamber Orchestra. As of 2016, she serves as a lecturer at the Tokyo University of the Arts and the Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music, as well as a visiting professor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music and Tokoha Junior College. After attending the High School of Music affiliated with the Faculty of Music at the Tokyo University of the Arts, she graduated at the top of her class from the Instrumental Music Department of the same university’s Faculty of Music. She completed the master’s program at the university’s graduate school. She studied abroad in London, furthering her studies under Maria Kurucho. In 1987, she won second place in the violin-piano duo category of the Maria Canals International Competition, performing with violinist Sonoko Numata. In 1989, she received the Special Prize from the competition jury for her accompaniment in the cello division of the Japan Music Competition.
