This reissue is a project for the 20th anniversary of Giulini's death, featuring the DG recordings with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra of "Pictures at an Exhibition" and the original recording of the "Classical Symphony," which features outstanding performances by the principal brass players of the golden age, as well as a new recording of the "Piano Concerto" by Arnold Jacobs, one of the legendary musicians along with Herseth, and a new recording of the "Piano Symphony" by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The newest reissue of this album features the Vaughan Williams: Tuba Concerto by Arnold Jacobs (1915-98), a soloist who was one of the legends along with Herseth, and is truly a masterpiece for brass instrument fans. In addition, we have added a memorandum that one of the legends of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, trombonist Jay Friedman, who has been with the orchestra for 63 years (more than 60 years as a principal), retired in September 2025. In addition to the sound source, the commentary includes a valuable new book by Atsushi Yuasa, who is a close friend of Mr. J. Friedman. The book is a must-read for all fans of Vaughan Williams, as it contains extremely valuable information, including his interaction with his former teacher.
