Description:
A conductor born in 2000 with the bearing of a maestro, Tarmo Pertkoski is a 23-year-old Finnish conductor, pianist, improviser, and sometimes composer making his major debut with Deutsche Grammophon. His solid musicianship, inspirational communication skills, and mastery of an extensive repertoire have already earned him international fame and respect. Pertkoski is currently Music Director of the Orchestre National de la Capitole de Toulouse, Music and Artistic Director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and just two years after his conducting debut, he is among the top conductors of today. Pertkoski began piano lessons at the age of 8, fell in love with Wagner's operas at the age of 11, and aspired to become a conductor; at 14 he took his first conducting lessons from the master Finnish conductor Jorma Panula, and four years later he entered the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki to study conducting and piano, He has studied with top Finnish conductors such as Sakari Oramo, Hannu Lintu, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and Esa-Pekka Salonen. This major debut album features Mozart's Symphonies No. 35 "Haffner", No. 40 in G minor, and No. 36 "Linz" with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, where he has been the orchestra's first principal guest conductor since 2022.
