A collection of works by Grigory Smirnov (1982-), a young composer born in Novosibirsk, Russia, who studied composition and piano at the music academy there and won the composition prize at the Prokofiev International Competition. His works have attracted attention from composers active in the United States, including Corigliano, Daniel Poole, and Aldridge. The album includes "Chaconne," a beautiful short cello melody with gentle variations, and a song on a poem by the English Victorian poet Ernest Dawson. Recorded in the United States in 2015 by Martin Bakerly (tenor) and others. (C)RS
