Produced by pop art master Andy Warhol, the band debuted in 1967 with Nico on vocals. As the name implies, the band's debut album is a nickname that bloomed in New York City, a melting pot of chaos where rock and art intersected from the underground to the skyscrapers. Avant-garde yet melodic. Freaky yet literary. This collection contains rare recordings of this legendary band, which has had a profound influence on the rock world, from before their formation to their debut album with a banana jacket. From the Banana album (Velvet Underground & Nico), an acetate miraculously discovered in 2002 in New York's Open Air City, all 9 tracks from the Scepter Studio Sessions, where previously unreleased takes & mixes of the debut album can be heard. The first single, "All Tomorrow's Parties," sung by Nico, is single-tracked vocally, unlike the official take. Another mix of "Black Angel's Song of Death" with Lou Reed speaking naively over John Cale's creaking viola continuo. A version of "European Sun," with its dark bass passage looping, is over a minute longer. Other tracks include completely different takes of "Venus in Fur," "Heroin," and "I'm Waiting for the Man. Rehearsals at Warhol's legendary studio, "The Factory"), where Lou Reed's statement that "The Beatles are trash" was debunked before his death is heard in a session that also includes the phrase "Day Tripper," as well as a rustic, Dylan-like demo by Lou Reed, J. Cale, and S. Morrison. Included. There are also four songs from the singles Lou recorded with his many bands prior to the formation of the band.Three of the songs feature Lou on lead vocals, including a British band-style song sung in a unique bass tone and a rare Lou song sung in a surf sound. The album also includes Nico's "Strip-Tease" produced by Serge Gainsbourg in 1962, as well as Nico's phantom single with Jimmy Page on guitar from 1965, and other related material never before released on CD by the band members. This is a collection of sound recordings that unveil the secrets of the birth of the legendary Velvet Underground band. This is the first release in Eternal Grooves' "ROCK OFF" series.
