Hans Georg Negeli was a Swiss composer and music publisher. He composed many keyboard pieces and songs, whose folk-like and familiar melodies were favored by his contemporaries as themes for variations. He was also active in music publishing, setting up his own publishing house and publishing a series from 1803 to 1805 entitled "Repertoire des Clavecinistes The Repertoire of the Clavecinistes. He published early 19th century keyboard works by Clementi, Staibert, Dussec, and Beethoven, and in 1808, he himself anonymously published the first six pieces of his "12 Toccatas" (the second collection was never published). (The second collection was never published.) This work, too, contributed to the improvement of keyboard playing techniques of the time. This album contains six Toccatas by Naegeli and works by Clementi and Beethoven. The music is performed by Els Biesenmans, who specializes in 18th- and 19th-century works, on a restored Anton Walther instrument made in the 19th century. Naxos Japan
