Description:
Livia Teodorescu-Shocenia is a Romanian female composer. She studied piano at a local conservatory and received a scholarship from the Romanian government to study in England from 1998 to 1999. She has since returned to Bucharest to focus on music education in Romania as a professor at the National College of Music. This ballet music, "Red and Black," is based on the motif of Stendhal's novel of the same name. Based on a real incident, Teodorescu-Socenia has created a unique world by extracting impressive episodes from the grandiose original story that intertwines youth and love with the corruption of the aristocratic class, and adding modern music that skillfully uses Romanian folk songs.
