Okeane, the latest work by contemporary German composer Detlef Granath, best known for his Requiem for Hieronymus Bosch, which effectively uses verses from the Seven Deadly Sins, premiered on April 28, 2019 and was acclaimed by the Berlin press as "one of the most exciting operas of recent years" It is. Inspired by the poetry of German poet Theodor Fontane, Hans-Ulrich Traichert's script is reminiscent of "The Little Mermaid," in which "Okeane," a mysterious woman who lives in the sea, comes to earth in search of love and the ability to capture emotions. It is a fragmented yet problematic work that depicts the essence of human nature. Maria Bengtsson sings of a being beyond human understanding with a beautiful and graceful voice, and tenor Zhukov beautifully portrays a sad man who is interested in Okeane but does not understand her very existence. The fantastic music Granato has attached to the story is movingly performed by the Runnicles. Naxos Japan
