Veteran Russian female cellist Karine Georgian plays the complete "Suite for Unaccompanied Cello" by J.S. Bach. Born into a musical family in Moscow, she studied with Rostropovich at the Moscow Conservatory and began her international career in 1966 when she won first prize at the 3rd International Tchaikovsky Competition. She has been performing Bach's unaccompanied works in her repertoire for many years in concert, and she says that she is surprised by their sublime beauty every time she plays them. DISC 3 contains the Viola da gamba sonata (cello version). The intimate world of the Viola da Gamba Sonata is different from that of the unaccompanied version. Naxos Japan
