The first installment is the “Romantic” A video recording of a concert featuring maestro Barenboim conducting his flagship orchestra, the Berlin State Orchestra, in a performance of Bruckner’s “Romantic” is now available. [Barenboim’s Bruckner Recordings] Barenboim, who enjoys great popularity in Europe and the United States as a maestro known for his powerful and passionate performances, has completed complete symphony cycle recordings—first with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1972 to 1981, and then with the Berlin Philharmonic from 1990 to 1996—demonstrating he is known for his deep devotion to Bruckner’s symphonies, and in recent years, he has continued to perform them extensively in concert to great acclaim. [The Bruckner Cycle by Barenboim & the Staatskapelle Berlin] This newly released video of “The Romantic” is taken from the Bruckner Cycle, during which this duo performed six symphonies—from No. 4 to No. 9—over six days in June 2010 at the Berlin Philharmonie. In addition to the studio recording of “Romantic” conducted by Barenboim with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (November 1972) and a studio recording with the Berlin Philharmonic (October 1992). Additionally, a live recording was made with the Staatskapelle Berlin in October 2008, making this the fourth different set of recordings for Barenboim—released just over a year and a half after the previous one.
