Description:
"Epiphany": A Collection of Berio Works by Segerstam, Featuring Barberian, the Former Composer’s Wife A live performance in which Segerstam—himself one of the leading contemporary composers—takes on Berio, one of the 20th century’s most representative composers. “Epiphany,” based on texts by Brecht, Sanguinetti, and even Proust and Joyce, is a work composed in the traditional cantata form for voice and orchestra. It consists of a total of 12 movements—7 orchestral movements and 5 vocal movements—each of which can be performed independently. Another distinctive feature is the “element of chance”: since the order of the movements can be rearranged, the arrangement itself can influence the meaning of the texts. Of particular note here is the participation of Kathy Barbelian, the former wife of Berio and a renowned specialist in contemporary music. The B-side is “Coro,” composed shortly after the main work. Comprising 29 episodes, Berio himself described this piece as a “work in progress,” and it is strongly linked to elements of his 1964 work “Folk Song.” [Comment provided by King International]
