The 500th anniversary of the Reformation is celebrated by Xavine Lutzenberger, a singer specializing in medieval and Renaissance music, and the PER-SONAT, an ancient music ensemble of which she is the artistic director. Martin Luther had a great influence on later generations not only as a religious leader but also as a musician, and his hymn "God is my God" has been used in various works, including J.S. Bach's chorales and Mendelssohn's symphonies. He also promoted the use of the German language in hymns that had previously been sung in Latin, creating the basis for the German lieder. Lutzenberger's soft voice on ancient instruments such as the Renaissance gamba, lirone (lira da gamba), Renaissance violin, lute, and viola d'arco will sing songs from 16th century Germany, where the Reformation took place.
