A pastoral opera celebrating the birth of Christ by Charpentier, the great French Baroque composer, who left behind a series of beautiful and familiar religious vocal works. The second part contains two different manuscripts. The soloists and chorus sing a rich variety of songs, and the nine singers sing happily in turn. The acoustics of this masterpiece, which could be called an ensemble concerto of voices, are truly pleasing to the ear. The instrumental music consists of strings, two recorders, and bassoon, and the pastoral image created by the recorders is also full of happiness. The Ritornello theme, in which the instrumentalists play an active role, tightens up the music at the critical moment. The performance is by Doce & Ensemble Correspondance, who are gaining popularity as specialists of French old music. The performance was lively and dashing with a sense of rhythm, yet neither too light nor too intense, and the tranquil beauty of the music was fully felt in this masterful performance.This is a wonderful, soothing album with excellent soft tones.
