A 4-Volume Set of *Carmina Burana*: Bringing Medieval Manuscripts to Life *Carmina Burana* is a collection of poems written in medieval Latin, Middle High German, and other languages, named after the Bavarian monastery that housed the manuscripts. Today, it is best known for the secular cantata of the same name composed by Carl Orff based on the manuscript, which contains a large collection of love poems, student songs, and religious poems written in Latin and German. Although attempts were made to perform the work based on the original manuscript as early as the 1960s and 1970s, it wasn’t until the 1980s that a systematic approach was taken. The New London Consort—one of the UK’s most innovative early music ensembles—gained widespread attention with their recording at Decca’s Oise-l’Isle studio under the direction of Philip Picket. One year after the success of Volume 1, recorded in 1986, three additional albums were released, and in 1996, they were released as a box set; however, they had been out of print for some time afterward.
