The soundtrack to the new Miles Davis documentary film, *Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool*, is now available. The film *Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool* (original title: *MILESDAVIS:BIRTHOFTHECOOL*) premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in January and was released in North American theaters that summer. It was directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Stanley Nelson. It is currently nominated for Best Music Film at the 62nd Grammy Awards. The "new recording" of "Hail to the Real Chief," which combines previously unreleased studio takes by Miles with an original composition by Lenny White, features a cross-generational collaboration led by John Scofield, along with Lenny White, Marcus Miller, and other artists who carry on Miles’ legacy. The lineup includes Vince Wilburn Jr., Lenny White, John Scofield, Marcus Miller, Bernard Wright, Emilio Modeste, Antoine Ronny, and Jeremy Pelt. The album’s official title is *Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool—Music From and Inspired By*. It features a selection of 13 of the greatest tracks from some of the most iconic albums Miles released over the years, spanning from *Milestone* to *TUTU*. Additionally, between tracks, the album includes unique and fascinating “testimonials” from figures who had connections with Miles—such as Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, Carlos Santana, Wayne Shorter, Gil Evans, and his ex-wife Frances—all of whom had connections with Miles—are inserted between tracks, bringing to life the multifaceted charm of Miles that continues to captivate listeners to this day.
