German baritone Peter Schöne records "The Wonderful Horns of a Child" with the Philharmonia Octet! German baritone Peter Schöne, the winner of the prestigious ARD Munich International Music Competition, who sings Mahler's songs in a truly colorful manner, is attracting worldwide attention and releasing an album with the Philharmonia Octet. The ten songs on the album are excerpts from Mahler's song cycle "The Child's Wonderful Horn" and were selected to suit the wind ensemble. Mahler, who was born in Iglau (now Jihlava, Czech Republic), was familiar with folk songs and military music from an early age, so it makes sense to perform this song cycle with a wind ensemble, allowing the audience to become intoxicated with the world Mahler created. The Philharmonia Octet performed the "Scherzo" and "Flower Chapter" from Symphony No. 1. This is another superb ensemble performance.
