Case Bucke and Walter van Hauwe, two masters of the recorder, were trained by France Brüchen, and after Brüchen's transition to conductor, they took on the world of the recorder. The two performed together for the first time in almost a quarter of a century at Brüchen's funeral, and were joined by Seiko Tanaka, who studied with Hauwe, and Daniele Bragetti, who studied with Bucke, to form the Olive Consort, one of the world's leading recorder quartets, in 2018. formed in Milan and Arezzo in June 2018 The program of the concert "Old and New Recorder Manners" held in Milan and Arezzo in June 2018 is now available on CD! The program of "Manners Old and New (Gesti antiqui e moderni)" combines instrumental music from Italy and the English Renaissance with one from the 20th century, united by a common denominator: the spirit of great experimentation and exploration. Contrapunti" by Constanzo Festa, who, two centuries before Bach, displayed a rare and fascinating technique of counterpoint. Consort music from manuscripts compiled at the court of King Henry VIII of England, who was himself an avid recorder player and composer.A difficult piece that incorporates highly sophisticated and complex polyrhythms from the "Baldwin Handscrolls," discovered by Bucke in the 1970s in the British Library. Then there is "Jesti," a superb recorder piece composed by Berio for Bruchen. The "Gesti," which was to have a decisive influence on the contemporary history of the recorder, is broken down into breath, fingers, tongue, and voice, each action (gesture) being notated separately, creating music that sounds like the ultimate polyphony for a solo instrument. In this program, Bucke and Hauwe play "Gesti" on the alto recorder and tenor recorder, respectively, and the improvisational elements they contain give them completely different expressions.
