[The Brahms series is now complete with Gergiev and the LSO's Symphonies No. 3 and No. 4 on SACD hybrid disc. Gergiev and the London Symphony Orchestra have completed their Brahms project. Gergiev made quite a splash in the 2012/13 season when he conducted the London Symphony Orchestra in a contrasting performance of the symphonies and other vocal works of Schimanowski and Brahms. The two Brahms symphonies were intensively recorded live in December 2012, with Symphony No. 4 performed in the first half of the program, followed by Szymanowski's Symphony No. 4 and Violin Concerto No. 2. The concert in which Symphony No. 3 was performed was followed by the Haydn Variations in the second half of the program, as well as by Symanowski's Symphony No. 3.Gergiev's Brahms, as was the case with the German Requiem, which he conducted with the London Symphony Orchestra, was a stately and, in a sense, orthodox performance with a stooped posture, although there was no shortage of passionate passages. The orchestra's performance of the two Brahms pieces, which were filled with the stylistic beauty of Brahms's maturity, was also very promising. King International
