The superb Purcell by the Cheris Consort of Viols! Purcell's complete Fantasia & In Nomine SACD hybrid disc. The "Cellice," named after the ancient Greek stringed instrument, is an English viol consort, and during the 16th and early 17th centuries, viol consort music was very popular in England, and many English composers of the same period left music for this repertoire. Henry Purcell, one of the greatest composers of English Baroque music, composed a wide variety of works for viols ranging from three to seven voices. This album contains all of Purcell's Fantasia and In Nomine. The autographs in the British Library are dated from June 10 to August 31, 1680. At this time, Purcell was 20 years old. This is a work that shows that he had established himself as a composer at a young age. King International
