Sacchai Curtis, brother of the Curtis Brothers, who leads the forefront of Latin jazz, releases an album under his own name! Afro-Cuban jazz, with Mario Bausa as its ancestor. According to Sakkai, there are two major schools of jazz, which are like two sides of the same coin. One is "instrumental mambo jazz," named by Eddie Palmieri. The first is "instrumental mambo jazz," named by Eddie Palmieri after Mario Bauza and Machito, and represented by Bebo Valdez, Tito Puente, Perutin, and Palmieri. On the other hand, the other "Cubap" can be described as bebop, with Afro-Cuban elements added mainly to the rhythm section.Cubana-Be Cubana-Bop (1946) and Manteca and Tin Tin Deo (1947) by Dizzy Gillespie, Chano Pozo, and George Russell were the first examples, and Stan Kenton, Charlie Parker, Art Blakey, Stan Kenton, Charlie Parker, Art Blakey, Cal Jader, Billy Taylor, and others paved the way. American Songbook covers such as "When I Fall in Love" and "Someday My Prince Will Come" influenced by Manny Oquendo & Libre and Jerry Gonzalez & the Fort Apache Band; "Contour," a tribute to Jackie McLean; Hilton Lewis' "Jazzin" that explodes with bebop spirit; and original songs such as "Black Rice," a sublation of these influences in his own way.The rich roots of Afro-Cuban jazz have been mastered and refreshed with tight ensemble playing and elegant improvisation, making this one of the best Latin jazz albums of recent years.
