Includes detailed chronology, sleeve notes, and tea chest tape notes. All material was restored and mastered from the original tapes by Alan Wilson of Western Star. At a time when pre-Beatles British pop was truly a mishmash of genres and musical ideas, Joe Meek sampled nearly everything on offer. From novelty hits to sound effects-laden masterpieces, from straight pre-beat pop and light instrumentals to cinematic ballads, with outstanding singers like John Layton and Mike Berry, and talented writers like Jeff Goddard and Ray Dexter Meek's studio techniques were still years ahead of many major commercial studios.FROM TABOO TO TELSTAR is the first in a series of chronological sets documenting Meek's work in the studio year by year. Featuring singles and B-sides, plus alternate versions, demos, and recorded but unreleased tracks, it represents the incredible creativity made possible by one man and his vision of experimentation.
