Description:
Fayrouz (1985-) is an Arab-American composer who has recently received worldwide acclaim. This album features several of his vocal pieces written over the past decade. The oldest work is "The Kidnapped Child" from 2005, and the most recent (as of 2016) is "Annabel Lee" from 2014. The oldest poem used is Ibn Hafaja's Arabic one about "homosexuality," and the most recent is "A German Romantic Song" from 2006. All Human" is an interesting collection of songs with words taken from Alma Mahler's diary, the second collaboration between Kate Lindsay, who sings expressively here, and Feyrouz (the first was "Blues of the Exile" with a poem by Auden). No Orpheus" as a remembrance of Feyrouz's grandmother. These songs, written with such a variety of texts, appeal directly to the listener's heart, with just a hint of familiarity and deep emotion. It can be said that this is not a stiff contemporary music, but music with a softer texture. Naxos Japan
