Benjamin Apple will produce an album fully produced by his beloved György Kurtág]. German-born baritone Benjamin Apple, popular in Japan for his several performances in Japan, met Hungarian composer György Kurtág in 2019 and has been working with him ever since. For Apple, Kurtág "shaped me as a musician and a human being, perhaps more than anyone else." The album alternates German Romantic songs by Schubert and Brahms with Kurtag's vocal works, five of which are world premiere recordings. Kurtag himself plays piano on two of the Schubert and Brahms pieces, and is joined by two of Apple's trusted old friends, Pierre-Laurent Emard and James Baillieu, all produced by Kurtag. The film ends with an interesting interview by Apple with Kurtag, aka "Gyuri bacsi (Uncle George)". Apple says, "The purpose of the album is to showcase Gyuri's work in a new way," says Apple.
