This is rare! This is a rare opportunity to trace back the sound of the mute cornet of days gone by. This is an ambitious project to recreate the sound of the instrument heard at the Court of Cassel, a major center of musical activity in the 16th and 17th centuries, and in Verona, a cultural city in the Republic of Venice. The recordings include works by composers associated with both regions. Kassel in central Germany was the court of Count Moritz of Hesse-Kassel from the end of the 16th to the 17th century, and although most of the court property has been lost, some of the instruments have been preserved in the Grassi Museum. This recording, using reproductions based on these instruments, is a very faithful reconstruction of the sound of the period.In Alto, formed by cornetist Lambert Corson and vocalist Alice Foklur, features a 15-member vocal ensemble in addition to three mute cornets, four sackbuts, one dulcian and sordone, two violins, one violone and gamba, one theorbo, and one keyboard. The ensemble includes a 15-piece vocal ensemble in addition to an instrumental ensemble of four dulcets, one dulcetto, one sordone, and two violins. With detailed liner notes (in French and English) written by Corson himself, this recording offers a full appreciation of the opulence and refinement of the sound, reminiscent of the grandeur of the court.
