Adrian Boult's first live recording from the BBC archives. From the BBC archives comes a collection of Adrian Boult's live recordings, all of which have never before been commercially released. Paul Bailey of Re:Sound has meticulously remastered the recordings to bring out the best sound from the original master tapes. The three main pieces, "Hero," which is the first live recording of the Haydn Variations, "The Great," which is a live recording that surpasses the famous 1972 studio recording, and "Haydn Variations," which is a live recording, are not only superbly performed but also in excellent sound quality, making this a treasure to be discovered. The Dedication Ceremony is Boldt's first appearance in the repertoire, and the Euriante is the first stereo recording of the piece. Although Boult is known for his interpretations of British music by Holst, Elgar, Vaughan Williams, and others, he also studied conducting with Nikisch and composition with Reger at the Leipzig Conservatory from 1912 to 1913, and was fascinated by German conductors such as Weingartner, Furtwängler, and Walter.
