This is the second collection in cpo's series "Music of the Ancient Towns of the Hanseatic League". The theme of this work is Gdansk (German name: Danzig). Under the rule of the German Knights, Gdańsk experienced modernization and economic growth, and became an official trading city of the Hanseatic League in 1361, when German immigrants, German merchants, and Jews gathered in the city. The city then developed further under the patronage of the Kingdom of Poland, but in the 18th century, the city fell into decline due to wars. The city came under the control of various countries and is now the largest port city in Poland. This album contains mainly unknown religious works from 17th century Gdańsk. You will hear organ pieces, choral pieces, and works depicting the battles of the archangel Michael, all of which are fascinating while reflecting the turbulent times.
