Based in France and Belgium, the French virtuoso clavecinist Frederic Haas has amassed a wealth of performance experience both as a soloist and in ensembles. He is a talented player who has also interpreted German and Italian Baroque works with a unique and rich flavor, but he shows exceptional affinity when facing clavesan works from the same French-speaking countries, and it is a pleasure to listen to his noble and thorough interpretation. The collection of Coupland's late works, which is the goal of the independent Hitasura label without compromise, is now available in a new 2-CD set of recordings. Haas has already released a series of highly acclaimed albums on the Alpha label about 10 years ago, featuring carefully selected selections from the four volumes of Couperin's Klavsin cycle, but none of the works included here were recorded there. The accumulation of his experience is reflected not only in the depth of his insight into the works, but also in his deepening affinity with the original 18th century Parisian clavecinis that he has loved playing for so long.Coupland's mastery of elaborate sound production, in which the flavor of the sound can change dramatically with the slightest timing, crystallized the suggestive title into a magnificent miniature of sound.
