Description:
Russian composer Grigory Samuilovich Fried gained international attention with his mono-opera "The Diary of Anne Frank," composed in 1969, and was also highly acclaimed for his numerous film scores and songs. However, his purely orchestral and instrumental works have not yet been studied in depth, and his influence on the younger generation of composers will gradually be elucidated. This album contains works in the tradition of his early "socialist realism," such as "Symphony No. 3" and "Two Inventions," which show the influence of Shostakovich, as well as "Concerto for Viola, Piano, and String Orchestra," which was written using modern techniques. The concerto for viola, piano, and string orchestra, written with modern techniques, is a real taste of the changes in Fried's style, which is said to have changed radically between the ages of 55 and 55. The viola concerto is soloized by Kuhlen, a leading Dutch virtuoso, and Triendl, a German virtuoso, giving a powerful performance. Naxos Japan
