Description:

Jansons & the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks "From the New World" & "Pictures at an Exhibition" Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Kubelík's birth with their signature pieces, Mariss Jansons and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks will release a video of Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" and Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition". The duo toured Japan in November of the same year with a program including Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World," which received a great response. This concert was planned to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Raphael Kubelík, who, as the second principal conductor of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, greatly influenced the development of the orchestra, and the program was chosen to include Kubelík's specialties.Jansons is also a master of both pieces, with recordings of "From the New World" with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (1988), the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (1998), and the Concertgebouw Orchestra (2003), as well as "Pictures at an Exhibition" with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (1988) and the Concertgebouw Orchestra (2008). In the first half of "From the New World," the beautiful beginning of the first movement is presented with refined expression, and the melody in the second movement is carefully and tastefully expressed by English horns, resulting in a crisp and tight sound overall. In the latter half of the "Pictures at an Exhibition," Ravel's colorful orchestration is made into fluid, open, and spacious music, and the performance is full of flexibility and changeability within a well-organized structure.
