The first CD release of 2021's most talked-about work, created when multi-instrumentalist Duval Timothy, who is also the subject of Kendrick Lamar's latest major work, meets Rosie Lowe, an up-and-coming genre-crossing singer-songwriter. 32-page full-color picture book + CD special edition. Recorded in London and Freetown between 2019 and 2021, the album was inspired by a shared "love of choral music" and uses multiple recordings of vocals as a follow-up instrument to piano harmonies, arrangements, and sampling to explore the voice in more creative ways. The project began as an experiment to explore the use of the voice in a more creative way. We were interested in incorporating our surroundings into the recordings. We would record in different spaces and locations, leaving the doors open and documenting the process while allowing the listener to experience life as it happens around us." The project began in London, where the title track became a story about a world that hides its true "color" in order to blend in with its surroundings.A mother tells her son that he must conform to others in order to survive, but she realizes that she is following the same mold that she herself inherited as a child. As a result, the mother encourages her son to follow his dreams and not to listen to the words of others who say he cannot be what he chooses. With the help of friends like Daniel Koroma, Kandeh Bangura, Valentine Coker, Chino Greene, and Tom Herbert, the rest of the project was written. The music was written, performed, and produced by Duval Timothy and Rosie Lowe, mixed by Marta Salogni, and mastered by Heba Kadry. The main artwork was designed by Duval Timothy. The domestic CD is limited to a special edition and includes an original picture book (32 full-color pages) that they themselves created inspired by their work.
