MISTYGREEN, a band founded in 2018 by Hidenobu Eto, is based on the concept of songs rooted in the early days of 1970s British hard rock and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), with a modern twist. The band made its debut in May 2019 at the “Masters of Rock” festival held in Nagoya. However, following a series of member departures, the band’s activities were temporarily suspended. Just as they were on the verge of giving up on MISTYGREEN, they received an invitation from an old friend, Hitoshi Ichiko, to participate in a studio session. It was there that they met Ryo Kotani (formerly of BlindWitch). Impressed by MISTYGREEN’s music, Kotani joined the band—with Ichiko’s support—and the group relaunched. For about a year, they refined their existing songs and worked on creating new material. Later, vocalist Yukimasa Hirashima joined the band after passing an audition, and the band matured their sound through numerous live performances. However, in November 2022, Ichiko’s support came to an end. Forced to search for a new bassist, the band continued their live activities with the help of a session bassist. In July 2024, Hisaya Saegusa joined as a full-fledged member. To coincide with their performance at “Ring of Fire Vol. 029” in February 2025, they released two songs, “King of the Darkness” and “Never Know It,” as a digital single. Afterward, they began working on an album. Their debut album, “In Search of the Weeds,” features MISTYGREEN’s modern take on the 1970s British hard rock and early NMWOBHM, It features a doomy, stoner-rock sound with elements of vintage and psychedelic rock—an addictive album that, once you’re hooked, you won’t be able to escape, with riffs that crawl through your mind and take you on a trip.
