These Royal Progresses were both a journey and an acoustic experience, with solemn polyphony accompanying the King's prayers, joyous songs echoing through the halls, and fascinating instrumental and chamber music performed in the intimacy of the private chambers. Produced in collaboration with the Historic Royal Palaces (the charity that manages the Palace) and the Henry on Tour Research Project, a group of experts from Newcastle University and York University, the album was recorded in the village of Liddington in Rutland, where the King himself stayed twice, It takes the listener on a journey from the palace to the countryside with Henry VIII. Ensemble Pro Victoria is an ancient music ensemble founded by Humphrey Thompson and Toby Ward at Cambridge University in 2015 that also won a Gramophone Award. Primarily a flexible ensemble of OVPP singers and instrumentalists, the ensemble focuses on Iberian polyphony, pre-Reformation Tudor music, and early Baroque music.Toby Ward, co-founder and artistic director, studied at King's College Cambridge and the Royal College of Music, and has been an organist at the Church of the National Musicians and St. Sepulker's Church, an associate of the Royal College of Organists, a Tenebrae Choir He has also served as tenor associate artist.
