The Thomas Christian Ensemble re-releases two symphonies in chamber ensemble version as a set! The Thomas Christian Ensemble is pleased to announce the re-release of two symphonies in chamber ensemble version as a set. The chamber ensemble versions included here were written for the "Private Performance Society" founded by Schoenberg. Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 is for nine players: clarinet, horn, harmonium, piano, string quartet, and double bass. The arrangement was shared by three of Schoenberg's students: Hans Eisler for the first and third movements, Erwin Stein for the second movement, and Carl Runkl for the fourth movement. In this arrangement, the organ-like acoustic world of the original is reduced, and a sense of unity among the various instruments typical of a chamber ensemble can be felt. Mahler's Fourth Symphony was originally a pastoral work with a relatively small orchestra, and the solo soprano in the last movement sings of the joys of heavenly life. The chamber music version sounds more intimate and expresses the decadent atmosphere that colored Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century. Both arrangements successfully bring out the charm of the music and capture the atmosphere of the times.The Thomas Christian Ensemble's individual high skills also allow the audience to fully enjoy the music.
