Schubert by New York-based pianist Pam Goldberg. While many pianists play the long A major sonata with more or less ingenuity to avoid redundancy, Goldberg's performance is meticulous and sincere. Listening to his playing, one is drawn into Schubert's unique world before one knows it. The latter two movements of this work have often been pointed out as being too light, but if you play the work as Goldberg does, you will know that this is a mistake, and that Schubert was right. Sincerity triumphs. The Serenade by Liszt is another performance that conveys Liszt's great love for Schubert's Serenade. Tobu Shoji Co.
