Shabaka Hutchings, a charismatic saxophonist who has been active as a central figure in projects such as Sons Of Kemet, The Comet Is Coming and Shabaka And The Ancestor, which made a splash in Japan for the first time last year, is pushing forward to the top of the new generation of UK jazz musicians. Shabaka Hutchings, a charismatic saxophonist at the top of the new generation of UK jazz, has finally released his first full solo album under his own name! This album is a new challenge for Shabaka Hutchings, who also plays flute, clarinet, and shakuhachi. The first single "End of Innocence" features Jason Moran (p), Nasheet Waits (dr), and Carlos Niño (per) on clarinet. The music video was directed by Phoebe Boswell and depicts Shabaka moving fluidly while surrounded by water. The album also features a number of other great players. Andre 3000, Esperanza Spalding, Moses Sumney, Brandi Younger, Floating Points, Lalage, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Saul Williams, El Cid, and others, completing a magnificent artistic statement.Regarding this album, Shabaka says, "This album is a real departure for me. It is a departure from the band I played in and became recognized by many, and the flute came to me. This album incorporates a lot of flutes and explores many different sonic realms. On the preceding single, "End of Innocence," I used the clarinet. My first instrument in life was the clarinet, and I consider it my main instrument. So it allows me to return to the state in which I am most comfortable. As for the members, I approached a group of musicians that I have met and respected over the past several years of touring the United States, and they all said yes. Their performances are always breathtaking. The recording took place in the historic Rudy Van Gelder Studio, a studio that has influenced the sound of many of the jazz albums that have shaped my musical background. Playing in a room with no headphones or separation, we were able to capture the atmosphere of just playing together in that space," he commented.
