This album commemorates the 25th anniversary of the release of "New Adventures in Hi Fi", the 10th and final studio album by the four members released in 1996, and features the original album on disc 1 with the latest remastering, live tracks, remixes and rare tracks. This is a limited first edition release with disc 2 featuring live tracks, remixes, rare tracks and more. The original album, which reached #2 on the U.S. Albums Chart and #1 in the U.K. Albums Chart, was released in 1996 and was R.E.M.'s last studio recording due to Bill Berry's departure the following year.As his fifth collaboration with longtime producer Scott Litt ("Green," "Out of Time," "Automatic for the People," "Monster"), the album is full of cinematic imagery, dissonance, and haunting effects, with new sound experimenting with new sonic textures filled with cinematic imagery, dissonance, and haunting effects. The platinum-selling title features the singles "Electrolite," "E-Bow the Letter" (featuring Patti Smith), and "Bittersweet Me," and is R.E.M.'s longest studio effort at 65 minutes in total R.E.M.'s longest studio work, clocking in at 65 minutes. It has enjoyed a cult following over the years, and the band members themselves cite it as one of the best albums in R.E.M.'s recorded catalog.
