Description:

Originally obtained by Epitagraph (formerly Epitaphon) from the ORF archives. The sound is very good! This 2-CD set of the entire concert of the day (plus the overture to Pfitzner's "Heilbronn's Kätchen") is now available on one CD, coupling Brahms and Reger for a more affordable price. Both are masterful performances. Especially Brahms No. 4 was highly praised by both Tadao Koishi and Kuniyoshi Uno in "Record Geijutsu" magazine (May 2009 issue), and is also featured as the best disc of the same piece (No. 3 for Koishi and No. 2 for Uno) in "New Edition: Masterpieces 300" (published by Ongaku no Tomo Publishing) now on sale. The sound quality is also good. The relationship between Schuricht and the Vienna Philharmonic became closer and closer. First of all, Brahms No. 4. For me, just hearing the title of this piece is enough to make me feel heavy, but Schuricht's performance was a delight! From the first movement, the violins sounded out, but the tone was glorious, smiling and singing through the whole piece. The violins are especially beautiful, but the entire orchestra is charming and bright, with ample delicacy in the weak notes. The tempo moves considerably. Rhythms also change. The progression of the music towards the coda excites the listener, and when it enters the coda, the music now begins to stamp its feet. The forward movement toward the coda excites the listener, and when it enters the coda, it now starts to step on the music. (omission) For me, this is a treasure of No. 4, but I am curious to see how this performance will be received by those who are true Brahmsites.
