A collection of choral works by Andrzej Panuchnik sung by the Polish National Youth Choir. The album consists of works from the period when he left Poland in 1954 for political reasons and worked in exile in England. Although these works were written in England, they are heavily influenced by traditional Polish melodies and folk songs, and his feelings for his homeland can be seen in the finished product. For example, "Song to the Virgin Mary" is based on a medieval Polish poem and creates a prayerful atmosphere with its pentatonic scale and unique harmony, while "Prayer for Peace" is based on a part of a symphony he composed during his Polish period and recomposed. The cantata "Universal Prayer" is a work for four solo singers, three harps, organ, and mixed chorus, based on a poem by English poet Alexander Pope. It is considered one of the most important works by Panufnik. The Winter Solstice is a piece for Christmas, written for soprano and baritone solo voices, mixed chorus, and instrumental ensemble.
