Peter Donohoe's second collection of Busoni's works follows up on his highly acclaimed previous release (CHAN20237),His high level of technique and musicality are demonstrated without regret. This album includes Busoni's arrangements of two masterpieces by Bach, "Variations on a Prelude by Chopin" dedicated to Brahms, Sonatina Nos. 1 and 2 from Busoni's original works, and "Counterpoint Fantasy," a large-scale work based on Bach's unfinished fugue, which he arranged for two pianos in 1921. Included. Donohoe has been active in performing Busoni's music, including a performance of his great "Piano Concerto" at the BBC Proms, and here again he gives a sympathetic performance. Karl Latchmeyer, who will perform with Donohoe in the "Counterpoint Fantasy," studied at the Royal College of Music and has won numerous awards and appeared on BBC and Classic FM broadcasts. He has received particular recognition for his Conversational Concert series, which he has presented in London for more than 25 years in a row. He is also known as a leading Busoni performer and recently organized and performed in a three-day Busoni Festival in London, where his solo and concerto performances were praised. (Naxos Japan)
