A unique work that contextualizes the great masters of 16th century Netherlandish music in a contemporary soundscape】A group of selected vocalists and instrumentalists, led by Simon-Pierre Bestion, a man of flexible musicality, gather to provide a unique thematic stage experience. La Tempête. The group has been presenting ambitious projects that transcend genre boundaries and invite a variety of artists as guests, placing works by composers from ancient to modern times in unexpected contexts. In this project, we will explore the musical world of the 16th century master Lassus, a native of Mons, the ancient capital of French-speaking Belgium, who was highly respected by the Elector of Bavaria, and who traveled to Italy and France to cultivate his broad musicality, using a flexible approach. This program was born out of a request to provide music for a documentary on the composer, and as Vestion learned about Lassus, whom he knew little about, he was quickly drawn to his multifaceted works and life, and wanted to capture his music as freely as possible.Starting with a solo piano arrangement of an a cappella piece, the sound of La Tempête's musicians, who are strongly influenced by ancient music and use a viola da gamba ensemble, woodwind cornet and saxophone, triple harp, and other instruments, is centered on the sound spun by modern instruments such as drums and saxophone, which adds a very natural touch to this unique musical experience. The result is a unique musical experience in which the sound of 16th century polyphony blends surprisingly easily with the sound sensibilities of 21st century people who are familiar with rock and jazz music in their daily lives.
