The Chateau de Versailles Spectacles label has been systematically recording the church music of Lully, the master of the French Baroque, and its latest volume, "Miserere" (CVS059/NYCX-10278), was specially selected by "Recording Arts" magazine. The latest volume, "Miserere" (CVS059/NYCX-10278), was awarded a special prize by "Record Geijutsu" magazine. He has shown great aptitude for conducting baroque operas, and this time he has taken the opportunity to conduct Monteverdi's late masterpiece. The 14-member instrumental ensemble, including seven bowed string players, winds, strings, and keyboards, and all soloists, including the chorus, will be led by Valerio Contaldo, who recently attracted attention with "Orfeo" (ALPHA720/NYCX-10243) by the same composer, conducted by Leonardo Garcia Alarcón. The lineup includes Valerio Contaldo, the rising Lucille Ricciardo, the talented Cyril Oviti, and countertenor Filippo Mineccia, among others.The exquisite interpretation of the script, which captures the dramatic development of the play, is truly unique to Leszepopei, and the singing, supported by a fine bass continuo with a solid choice of instruments, conveys the spirit of the early Baroque period of "singing and speaking". The story of Ulysses (Ulysses Odysseus), who wanders through foreign lands and heads for his home where his wife Penelope waits for him, is revived in its original Italian Baroque form in this new masterpiece.
