Description:
[Ticciati’s Lyrical and Dynamic Production of *Rusalka*] Rusalka, a water nymph, falls in love with a human prince. The sorceress Ježibaba transforms her into a human, but in exchange, Rusalka must give up her voice. Furthermore, she agrees to the condition that if she fails to win the prince’s love, both of them will be cursed for eternity. The two fall in love, but on their wedding day, the prince—of all things—falls for a foreign princess… Robin Ticciati, Music Director of the Grindbourne Festival, interprets Dvořák’s characteristically beautiful, rich melodies and rhythmic music in a style that is at times lyrical and at times dynamic, complemented by a superb cast of singers and dancers. Particularly striking is the poignant singing of Sally Matthews in the role of Rusalka. The production, with British stage director Mary Still handling all aspects of set design, direction, and choreography, adds a stimulating, otherworldly touch to the tragic love story of the water nymph.
