Description:
Clarinetist Emma Johnson became a household name at the age of 17 when she won the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition. Since recording Mozart's Clarinet Concerto the following year, she has sold more than 500,000 CDs worldwide, and here she performs two works with her close friends. Accompanying Schubert's Octet is an unusual work by Swedish composer Krusell. It is a remarkable piece with a beautiful ensemble of horns, bassoon, and clarinet reminiscent of the serenade form. The Carducci Quartet and contrabassist Chris West participate in Schubert, and Michael Thompson and Philip Gibbon in Krusell, each of whom are virtuosos in their own right, creating an intimate and enjoyable ensemble.
