Description:

This package is a triple bill (three performances of three plays in one evening) planned to commemorate Bernstein's 100th birthday in 2018 and titled "Bernstein Centenary". The program features three popular choreographers, Wayne McGregor, Liam Scarlett, and Christopher Wheeldon, each interpreting and perfecting Bernstein's masterpiece as a composer of serious music. The performance, titled "YUGEN" in Japanese, uses the Chichester Psalms, composed for orchestra and choir, including a boys' chorus, and features a series of dancers performing a series of abstract dances to the music. The concerto-style Symphony No. 2, "The Age of Anxiety," accompanied by a solo piano, presents a narrative world set in a bar and on the streets. The "Play of the Chorubantes," a concerto work for violin and orchestra in the style of Plato's "Feast," with "Serenade," depicts men and women dancing violently in ancient Greece, bringing physical movement to the forefront of this program.Another attraction is the opportunity to see performances by Japanese dancers such as Principal Akane Takada, Chisato Katsura, and Ryoichi Hirano.
