The contrast between the fragile and delicate moments that came in between the two was tremendous. This is Szigeti's only Berg. I am very proud that Szigeti left us this piece with Mitropoulos. This Berg was once praised by Mitsuko Uchida in Reco Gei magazine. And now, for the first time in decades, the Mitropoulos-played Prokofiev: Piano Concerto No. 3 is back. A master of piano under Busoni, Mitropoulos made his Berlin Philharmonic debut in 1930, playing this piece in place of Egon Petri, who had to be substituted at short notice. It was a sensational success and a stepping stone to an international career. Even listening to it now, the technique is exciting and amazing. The NBC Symphony Orchestra's pine sap-splattered dedication is also noteworthy.The existing disc had an annoying buzzing noise, but this time the noise has been removed beautifully.
