After "Giant," Lotto & Les Siecle's second Mahler album is No. 4! The mysterious brilliance is as if you are hearing it for the very first time! Lotto and Les Siecle have taken on the challenge of playing Mahler's Symphony No. 4 on period instruments. The same combination was used for No. 1 "Titan", and Nos. 5 and 3 were recorded with the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra to great acclaim. Mahler's Fourth Symphony was premiered on November 25, 1901, at the very dawn of the 20th century. After the large-scale 2nd and 3rd symphonies, Mahler's 4th Symphony seems to have returned to the traditional four-movement structure in a classical manner, and is considered to be the most cheerful and accessible of Mahler's works. As in "Titan," Les Siecle uses period instruments from the time the work was written. The violin solo in the second movement, which is based on the period technique and is inspired by the image of the Grim Reaper playing, is played in a non-vibrato style, which is refreshing. The effect of the harp's bass sound is also astonishing. The soprano solo in the last movement is sung by Sabine Deuvier, the wife of Raphaël Pigeon. She is the wife of Raphaël Pigeon, and she is a perfect match with Lotto & Siecle, with whom she has released an album of arias from Mesaje's "Okiku-san" and others. She has a bright non-vibrato voice and sings about the heavenly life with purity, while some cruel and scary sensation looms in the background, as if to remind us of the world that leads at once to "Song of the Earth" from her last years.The Lotto is a bit faster in tempo, full of life, and above all, the transparent tone of the orchestra. The sound quality is superb, even in the strong passages, and the recording was made during a session in November 2021. This is a disc that deserves your attention! King International
