Description:

A Collection of Violin Pieces by the Mature Master UghiAt over 70 years old in 2018, Ute Ughi is still actively performing as one of Italy's most renowned violinists, and his first new recording in five years is a collection of very famous violin pieces. The album, entitled "Sounds of Europe," is dedicated to the "Old Continent" of Europe, which has produced some of the greatest music of all time. All of the pieces are from the master's own personal repertoire, and all of them are memorable to him. Memories come from the heart, and for me they are synonymous with inspiration. Let's say I remember a performance by Menuhin. I remember his unique playing and his inclusive humanity. I am inspired by that memory and try to do my best. A memory of the heart, of the spirit, so to speak," he says of the album's concept. The emotionally rich playing spun out on this album is literally a fusion of Ugi's consummate artistry and natural sensibility, and the richness of nuance in Ugi's full, deep, and slightly sweet tones is truly something only he could achieve. On this album, he uses his favorite instruments, the 1701 Stradivarius "Kreutzer" and the famous 1744 Guarneri del Gesu "Cariplo". The accompaniment is provided by the brilliant Italian pianist Andrea Bachetti, who has been described as having a "sweet, feather-light tone and clear cantabile," and whose unique style brings the works into new relief by reinterpreting them from various angles. <Born in 1944 to a musical family in Busto Arsizio, northern Italy, Ute Ughi began violin lessons at the age of four with Ariodante Coggi of La Scala Orchestra in Milan, and at the age of seven gave his first recital at La Scala in Milan with a Bach chaconne and several pieces from Paganini's Caprice. From the age of 10 to 12 he studied with Georges Enesco in Paris. He studied in Geneva, Vienna, and Siena, and at the age of 23, he performed Beethoven's Violin Concerto under the baton of Celibidacke to great acclaim. He is one of the best violinists in Italy. He is also a professor at St. Cecilia's Conservatory of Music, where he teaches young musicians. Sony Music
